Some would be interested in knowing how the performance of a GTX 680 fared in the last beta weekend.
Here are some system specs.
Intel I5 2500k 4.2 ghz (stock cooler)
8 Gigabytes of ram
OCZ Agility 3 SSD 120gb
Geforce GTX 680
Windows 7 64-bit
Guild Wars 2 was running at 1920×1080 with everything maxxed out except shadows were set to medium.
Game would jump between 30 FPS and up to 60 FPS in depending on where you where and what was going on. Even the mighty GTX 680 is not overkill for this game at this time.
The overall gameplay experience was very smooth and there was no lag in any part of the gameplay. PvP in World vs World was fast and fluid with a bunch of effects from spells and various seige weapons going off every second. Completely playable would be our verdict with slight screen tearing if you move your camera around real fast and want to look for it and be nitpicky.
We’ve heard rumors that the game is not fully optimized yet and not taking advantage of multi-cores and this may increase performance the closer we get to a release client, so keep your fingers crossed.
I would not recommend purchasing hardware until there is a firm release date for Guild Wars 2, unless you can find a GTX 680 and you play other games as well that would benefit from it then I say go for it because this card is simply amazing.
