Reserve your 2 word(firstname lastname) names for Guild Wars 2

Basically you need to have an active Guild Wars 1 account in good standing and have logged in at some point since since Jan 2012. As you can only make 2 word char name sin GW1 , all your 2 word char names will be reserved.

1 word names will still be up for grabs to anyone during headstart.

Geforce GTX 680 and Guild Wars 2

Some would be interested in knowing how the performance of a GTX 680 fared in the last beta weekend.

Here are some system specs.

Intel I5 2500k 4.2 ghz (stock cooler)

8 Gigabytes of ram

OCZ Agility 3 SSD 120gb

Geforce GTX 680

Windows 7 64-bit

Guild Wars 2 was running at 1920×1080 with everything maxxed out except shadows were set to medium.

Game would jump between 30 FPS and up to 60 FPS in depending on where you where and what was going on. Even the mighty GTX 680 is not overkill for this game at this time.

The overall gameplay experience was very smooth and there was no lag in any part of the gameplay. PvP in World vs World was fast and fluid with a bunch of effects from spells and various seige weapons going off every second. Completely playable would be our verdict with slight screen tearing if you move your camera around real fast and want to look for it and be nitpicky.

We’ve heard rumors that the game is not fully optimized yet and not taking advantage of multi-cores and this may increase performance the closer we get to a release client, so keep your fingers crossed.

I would not recommend purchasing hardware until there is a firm release date for Guild Wars 2, unless you can find a GTX 680 and you play other games as well that would benefit from it then I say go for it because this card is simply amazing.

Guild Wars 2 world vs world

World vs world is somewhat standard open world pvp in that you have your 2 armies facing off each other pushing forward or retreating backward. What really adds flavor are the siege weaponry that is devestating and can make a siege last hours, therefore it’s very important that siege weaponry is employed by both the defenders and the attackers lest one side find themselves disadvantaged. Blue prints for the various siege weapons can be found on an NPC in the starting area that sells them. To build a siege weapon you need a blue print to place the weapon on the ground and start building, then it requires resources to complete. Some items take 30-40 resources and some as much as a 100, a player can only carry 10 resources at a time but they can always carry 10 resources on them unhindered.  This may require multiple players to plan ahead of time to bring resources or sending players out for resource runs after the fact which gives the enemy time to destroy your foundation before the siege weapon is built.

Lastly world vs. world provides excellent XP and money for completing the events and taking out other players, they will drop loot bags with tokens for epic gear and more than likely weapons and armors to upgrade yourself with that are relevant to your PvE level at the time. Also you can accumulate points to puchase gear from the Karma vendor.

You can jump into world vs. world at level 1 after completing some tutorial quests, however it would make more sense to unlock weapon skills(btw, attacking the doors of a castle seems like a good way to raise weapon skills you don’t normaly equip) and get a few skill points first to make yourself more viable.

For now some good advice is to always pick up and carry 10 resources so you can help build a siege weapon or help fortify a location.

A brief look at Guild Wars 2 crafting

Guild Wars 2 crafting is very dependant upon drops to gather crucial components for the crafting process. This can be salvagable items that produce the raw crafting materials, or the various item’s that are used to make the stat component that will determine whether the item is power or precision, etc.

You start with a basic set of recipes, thankfully for leatherworkers and tailors the 8 slot bags are available to make right away. The tailoring 8 slot bags seem to be a lot cheaper, the leatherworking 8 slot bag can be tweaked to automatically put picked up trash items there first with a recipe upgrade. Speaking of recipe upgrades you can create new recipies by creating a stat component and combining it with the 2 pieces of a armor or weapon and it will create a new item and recipe, sometime it will proc and give you a masterwork item above your crafting level and save the recipe.

#1 Save everything and breakdown weapons and armor you don’t plan to sell with salvage kits

#2 Upgrade your bag space and slots(done via gem shop). Make a lot of gold by crafting and selling bags.

Guild Wars 2 Speculated release date Oct-Nov 2012

The new Guild Wars pre-orders are very remeniscent of SWTOR’s with a standard, digital deluxe, and collector’s edition not to mention pricing. SWTOR also opened up pre-orders in April and Launched in December 2011. Suffice it to say with all these similarities and particularly how the mmo industry follows pre-established trends of not releasing AAA mmo titles in the summer, One would think the target date for Guild Wars 2 would possibly be Oct-Nov 2012. Leaving Tera to go head to head with the Mists of Pandaria expansion this summer.

Starwars the old republic early game access

Remember that opening scene in the movie/comic Kick-Ass where the person in the superhero costume is up on a tall building and the music is all dramatic and superhero-like and he checks his wings and gear. Then he strides forwards and takes a leap with utmost confidence and plumets quickly to his demise in a spectacle of epic fail…yeah it’s kinda like that.

The future of Star Wars The Old Republic

• New Content – We will be adding new content to the galaxy on an ongoing basis. These worlds will include Operations, Flashpoints and solo content.

• Guild Functionality – Guilds are important to the long term health of any MMORPG. We have a huge list of guild centric features. This will be an ongoing effort that will probably never end. Guild banks are the first thing we’ll be delivering in our plans for increased guild functionality. Eventually we even want to deliver on the promise of the long hinted at “Guild Capital Ships”.

• UI customization – You like choice. We hear you! SWTOR is all about choice. Being able to choose how you interact with an online game is something we feel is very important. We are going to be giving more control over the UI as an ongoing effort. This is a very big priority for us.

• PvP – We have an entire team dedicated to adding content and features to player vs. player. We have some of the most experienced PvP developers in the world on this team. So far very few people have seen, or know much about the stunning Open World PVP on Ilum; when you get to the high levels prepare to be blown away! In addition to that high level PVP content, expect new Warzones and new PvP features on a regular basis.

• Space Combat – We will continue to add missions to the space game. We also have a special project going on right now that will expand space gameplay in a significant way… for now the details will have to remain under wraps.

• Legacy System – The ability to select a surname for your character is just the start of something much bigger. Soon, the Legacy experience and levels you earn will grant your characters access to powers, objects and other cool benefits.

• And more – We have an entire team of developers working on future content. Right now we are focused on nothing else but Star Wars: The Old Republic, so expect new and cool things.

It is fair to say that we’re just as excited as you are about the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Not only are we launching one of the largest and most impressive games ever created, but we’re also excited about the prospect of continuing to work on the game so that you, the fans, will always have something heroic and amazing to enjoy. Thanks for playing.James Ohlen
